The Mirror

“Being a Christian is more than just an instantaneous conversion – it is a daily process whereby you grow to be more and more like Christ.”

– Billy Graham

The Mirror

Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

James 1:23-24

Many of us spend a lot of time in front of the mirror. It shows our flaws and we take immediate action to correct them so that we look better. This is an important part of many people’s morning routines, and some will even carry a mirror in their bag to continue to make adjustments throughout the day. Some people may look in the mirror but not make the necessary changes because they are simply not interested. Their flaw would continue to be visible as they go about their life.

The Word of God is like a mirror and it shows the flaws in our hearts. We have the choice to either walk away from the mirror or make the adjustments needed to correct our flaws. Just as we check our appearance before we leave the house every morning, it is important to read the Word of God to check the condition of our hearts before we start the day.

Let the Word of God reflect light into our hearts so that we will be acceptable in His sight like we are accepted in society. “Thy word is lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path” (Psalm 119:105).

O Lord,

I am able to find the time to be in front of the mirror and adjust the little flaws I see. Give me the time from this day forward to spend with the mirror of Your Word so that I can grow to have a pure heart. Amen.

Living like a Redwood tree

The greatest of Earth’s living forms,
Tall conquerors that laugh at storms;
Their challenge still unanswered rings,
Through fifty centuries of kings.

Living like a Redwood tree

For I, the Lord your God, have taken your right hand in mine, saying to you, Have no fear; I will be your helper.

Isaiah 41:13

Often we miss out on the plans that God has for our lives due to fear and intimidations. Last week we read about the tares that the devil sow into our lives that prevents the plans that God has for us. Once we understand that the devil is the cause of our fears and lack of confidence, we can take authority over him and break loose from the bondages that he has woven around our lives.

Paul says that Jesus has the power to set us free from every bondage brought into our life by the devil. As such In Hebrews 2:14-15,  he writes, “By His death, he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.”

The strongholds of the devil are the lies that have the power to attack our minds, robbing us of our confidence and replacing it with fear.

Today God wants us to know that He is with us in everything that we do. He created us to have a life that is as large as a Redwood tree. We can live that life if we stop fearing, and rise up with courage knowing that the Lord our God is always by our side. He has taken our feeble hands in His able hands and He is assuring us not to fear, as He will be our helper.

Lord God, I come to You in Jesus’ name. I am so blessed to have You, my good Shepherd, by my side in every moment of my life. Even though my heart has given into fear, today I choose to hold on to Your righteous right hand and walk beside You, knowing You will never leave me nor forsake me. Amen.

God bless you,
