Honour Your Masters

Each life is made up of mistakes and learning, waiting and growing, practicing patience and being persistent. Billy Graham

Honour Your Masters

Servants, be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the unjust. For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly. For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God.

1 Peter 2:18-20

Let us look at David this morning. He was anointed by Samuel to be the king of Israel while Saul was still ruling the kingdom. God’s favour, however, was on David and thereby he won the hearts of the people which made King Saul very jealous of him.

King Saul plotted to kill David and took with him three thousand able men to go after David but this is what happened.

He came to the sheep pens along the way; a cave was there, and Saul went in to relieve himself. David and his men were far back in the cave. The men said, “This is the day the Lord spoke of when he said to you, ‘I will give your enemy into your hands for you to deal with as you wish.’” Then David crept up unnoticed and cut off a corner of Saul’s robe.

1 Samuel 24:3-4

David was given the opportunity to kill Saul but he chose to spare his life. His men encouraged him to kill the king but David did not listen to them because he wanted to please God by obeying His word to honour our masters.

When Saul came out of the cave, David called to him and reassured Saul by prostrating before him, saying, ‘I will not lay my hand on my lord, because he is the Lord’s anointed.’

David was known to be a man after God’s own heart. Can we also be men and women of God who will have the heart of David to honour God by honouring our superiors.

Dear Lord,
I thank You for this day and ask You to give me strength to honour my superiors even when I am wronged, so that it will truly please You. Amen.

God bless you,
Theo and Manju
