Krupa, India

Update. July 21st 2014

Dear Pastor and Manju,

Work at Krupa keeps growing by His grace. Our new initiative is a slum resettlement colony of 2,048 tenements near Padappai. The people have no job opportunities.

Commuting to the city for work is too expensive. Substance abuse is common. As a result the women and children bear the brunt of the frustration experienced by the fathers. The government’s Slum Clearance Board gave us the opportunity to work among these people. We started medical, screening and awareness camps to address health needs. We run a weekly counselling centre for women and children. Counsellors visit homes and the primary school to further engage with them. The women lacked skills to find jobs. Krupa runs short term courses in e-billing and retail sales, beautician training, tailoring and other course. We also help with internships at nearby establishments. We have identified 10 special children with mental disabilities in this colony, who can benefit from Arunodhaya, our centre for special children.

The Arunodhaya Center for special children is a place where these children can go and have their meets met. We have enrolled 14 children and young adults into the Centre. In addition the children are also taken to a nearby hospital periodically for physiotherapy. A minivan is hired to bring children and their care givers to the [is it hospital]and the minivan will also drop them back. There is no doubt that the Arunodhaya Center is needed but presently the Center shares the space with a local community college. This is not ideal and the Center is in need of its own premises.

Our work among the Chennai prisons has helped to open doors to other prisons in our state. In association with other organisations, we conduct specially tailored programs for inmates of the Borstal School (for first time offenders between 18 and 22 years). These boys, rejected by their families are helped to reconcile and return to their families. Praise God for this amazing work. Our work among prisoners’ families
is a blessing. We also counsel the women and children of close to 175 families and help set up microbusinesses for survival and assist in children’s education.

Sri Lanka

We are partners with the Foursquare Church in Sri Lanka and we have built two churches together, one in the south and the other in the north of the Island.

We also support the orphanage run by the Foursquare Church in Sri Lanka by sponsoring four of their children.

Fiji

We have sent a mission team to Fiji and also support the Foursquare Church in Fiji, in whatever ways we can.

We helped them during the devastation caused by the recent cyclone that hit Fiji and have also provided clothing for their children.

We have sent love gifts in shoe boxes to Fiji and will continue to do this every year.

Our work in Tonga

We have supported the Foursquare Church in Tonga by contributing money to their church building fund.

Papua New Guinea

We are working with the Foursquare church in Beaverton to build a well to provide drinking water to a village.
